If you’re planning a visit to Castile and León, you’re in for a treat full of history, culture, and stunning landscapes. This region has some of Spain’s most impressive cities and countryside.
In León, the Gothic cathedral with its beautiful stained glass windows is a must-see. We also enjoyed walking through the charming old town, with its lively plazas and cozy tapas bars. Zamora surprised us with its well-preserved Romanesque churches and a relaxed atmosphere that made it a perfect spot to unwind.
Definitely. Zamora might be smaller, but it’s packed with history and charm. The Romanesque architecture is impressive, and the town has a calm, welcoming vibe that makes it a great place to relax and take in the local culture. It’s a wonderful spot to explore at a slower pace.
Driving worked best for us, especially since it allowed us to easily visit smaller towns like Zamora and explore the beautiful countryside. The roads are in good condition, and driving between cities like Salamanca and Zamora was straightforward. However, if you’re sticking to major cities, trains and buses are also a good option and quite reliable.
We recommend visiting in spring or fall. The weather during these seasons is pleasant, and it’s less crowded than in summer. We visited in spring, and it was perfect for walking around Zamora and Salamanca without the heat or crowds. Plus, the spring scenery added a lovely touch to the landscapes.
Castile and León is less touristy than other regions like Andalusia or Catalonia, which is something we really appreciated. In cities like Zamora and León, we found it easy to explore without the crowds, even at popular sites. Salamanca has more visitors, especially around the university, but it still feels authentic and not overly commercialized.
